We all want to avoid paying full price for Amazon Prime but that desire is stronger right now! This week when they released their earnings statement Amazon announced a price hike for Amazon Prime. The price change will go into effect on Feb. 18, 2022, and for current Prime members, the new price will apply after March 25, 2022, on the date of their next renewal. An annual Prime subscription will go from $119 to $139. For those who subscribe on a month-to-month basis, the price will be increased from $12.99 per month to $14.99 per month.
How Do You Avoid Paying Full Price for Amazon Prime?
Do you really use Amazon Prime?
The easiest way to avoid paying full price for Amazon Prime is not to have it at all. If you rarely use it go ahead and cancel it. But if you want to keep it continue to read.
Are you an EBT or Medicaid Recipient?
If so you can grab Amazon Prime at a discounted rate. It’s currently $5.99 a month and they have not released details about that increasing.

Are you a Student?
If you are a student (meaning you have a .edu e-mail address) at an eligible university or college located in one of the 50 states or Washington, D.C. you are eligible for Amazon Prime Student. This should give you a free six month trial and then a reduced price after the six months. It has some different perks and some perks of the full version are missing but if you are using it mainly for the shipping component this is a great way to save.
Do you use Metro by T-Mobile?
If you do you should receive a complimentary Amazon Prime membership. Reach out to your carrier for that information.
Could you share it with someone?
Did you know you can share your Prime account? You can have up to two adults each with their own Amazon account. It’s called Amazon Household and I have some family members who use it. It needs to be someone you are super comfortable with and trust but it’s doable. Then you could split the price.
I’m a current member and want to keep it! What do I do? Gift yourself Prime!
First you need to find out when your membership auto renews. Head to Amazon and find “Memberships and Subscriptions.” If your renewal is before March 25, 2022 you are good. It will renew at $119 and should show that. If not head below the picture to see what you do!
If you already have the service or want to sign up for the first time, you can lock in the current price of $119 a year. You just need to purchase a “Gift of Prime” membership for yourself, which essentially allows you to buy a one year Amazon Prime membership at the current rate. After you’ve done this, set your subscription to not auto-renew. Once your membership expires, you can apply your purchased one year membership to your account. That won’t help with 2023 but you can save the $20 now.
I did that , at first I had to change to a different email because Amazon said you already have a account so I hope I can use this gift card when it expires in August
