Make Easy Sour Patch Grapes for Kids
Ingredients
Boxes of Jell-O or another store bought powdered gelatin (my favorites were orange and black cherry). I have heard from some people they really like using the Jolly Rancher Gelatin!
A bunch of grapes (I would have preferred to use green ones but we are in quarantine as I write this and the grape supply at the store was limited)
And if you are looking for something to eat with your fruit check out this Simple Two-Ingredient Fruit Dip!
Directions
Step One: Wash the grapes well and leave them wet. I just left mine in the colander on the counter with a paper towel underneath.
Step Two: You have a few options of how you would like to cover the grapes in the gelatin powder. I got bags, dropped the damp grapes in them and shook them until the grapes were well coated. These bag I threw in the freezer- powder and all and left overnight. This was the method I preferred as it was least messy and I ended up preferring the frozen ones.
If you would like to take a more active approach I tried another method of throwing about five of them in a bag, coating them and then pulling them out to refrigerate individually (I put them on wax paper which worked great). As you can see some of the coating stuck to my fingers leaving some dull areas. I saw some people online using toothpicks to coat each one and carefully place each one on a plate. That was more time consuming than I would prefer but if you were taking them to a party or something I suppose that would work.
Just throw the plate in the refrigerator until they are as cold as you would like!
A Frugal Chick’s Thoughts
This is a fantastic snack with the kids- especially since it’s not crazy unhealthy. I will say I am NOT a big fan of sour so this wasn’t my favorite (I don’t really like Sour Patch Kids or any of those candies). However the three kids in my family LOVE this snack. And I have seen a few people mention it is Weight Watchers approved for the grown ups!
