IKEA is designed to help you save money.  Just their base prices are fantastic.  By making a carefully planned trip you can walk out with some great savings.  But a few extra steps can help you REALLY walk out the door with some bargain at your local IKEA.

Tip and Tricks to Save BIG at IKEA

Join IKEA FAMILY for extra savings.

Joining IKEA Family is your first step to big savings!  You can join in store at a kiosk (like pictured above) or you can join online.  It’s completely free to join and has tons of benefits- member exclusive products, special offers, food discounts, member only sales, ease with returns, price adjustments and more!

Check out the “As Is” Section

Believe it or not the brand new, not yet open location I visited had an “as is” section already.  Items that were damaged in set up in that store are already up to 50% off!  This section is near check out so if you want to just search the “as is” section head in the exit.  Depending on the level of “damage” there will be some fantastic finds in there!

Grab a FREE Coffee

IKEA FAMILY members can get a free cup of coffee or tea in the restaurant. Just grab a mug and present your card to the cashier at checkout—no purchase necessary.

Take Advantage of the FREE Child Care

IKEA provides a free hour of daycare for shoppers who bring kids along.  You’ll find this area, known as “Smaland,” at the front of the store.

It’s for older kids a little more capable of taking care of themselves.  Children must be between the height of 37″ and 54″ and be toilet trained.  No bare feet are allowed so be sure to bring socks.  They use a sticker system apparently so don’t lose it.

AND if you are an IKEA FAMILY member present your IKEA FAMILY card and get an extra 30 minutes for free!

Kids Eat FREE on Tuesdays

Plan to visit on a Tuesday. When you do, you’ll get 2 free Kids’ Meals with the purchase of an adult entree. You must present an IKEA FAMILY card at checkout to take advantage of this deal.  This deal begins at 11 a.m.

Look for IKEA FAMILY Meal Deals

Each month, IKEA introduces new deals on specific food items in the restaurant and Swedish food market. This can be anything from a $1 breakfast plate to an $8 family meal. You must present your IKEA FAMILY card to take advantage of these offers.

Price Adjustment

IKEA has, by far, one of the best price adjustment policies. You have up to 90 days to request a refund if an item you’ve purchased goes on sale.  The item must have been purchased with a free IKEA FAMILY loyalty card to qualify for this price protection.

Shop on Off Days

Lines at IKEA can get ridiculous.  Try to get there when the store opens on a week day to have the best luck leisurely walking through the store.  This way you can make smart decisions instead of impulse buys!

Have Missing Parts Mailed for FREE!

If you find there are missing parts in your order, IKEA will send you them for free. You’ll need to email customer service with information like your full name, address, the 8-digit article number for the product, and transaction information. Find the complete list of information along with a link to their customer service email here.

If you’re trying to get ahold of customer service at your nearest location, try calling first thing in the morning or later in the evening. I find I always get through right away around 7 PM at my local IKEA.
