The last 30 hours have been completely insane so I wanted you to know where I have been (since I haven’t been here).
It began Tuesday morning around 10 a.m. You know how when you are leaving town you have every moment planned? You know what you need to pack, have half the bags laid out and the other things in a list in your mind. Oh and your cat is stalking your suitcase because she has now figured out you are leaving town and her only defense is to lay on top of your clean clothes so that you do not forget her while you are gone.
I get an e-mail and find out that my site had been attacked by a hacker who placed a worm in the guts of my website. At that point I had two hours to get everything done and get out the door while freaking out about the hacker.
Basically what this worm does is ensure that whenever a person googles my site they get a nice big link that says my site is spam. They have created a mirror site that messes me up five ways to Monday. Thankfully it’s a nice safe worm for my readers- since I don’t keep any of your personal information it has no idea who you are. While to a hacker this may be amusing this website is my main source of income. They are jeopardizing my relationship with many companies and in a worst case scenario I could have to rebuild my site from scratch. I e-mailed my web guy to have him start looking around and tried to finish up my posts for the day, shower, clean my house, get cash and not forget to pack anything.
So during the 3.5 hour drive to DC (with Sharon from Mom on Dealz and Dana from The Coupon Challenge) I was on the phone with my web guy trying to get things worked out. As soon as I got to the hotel I locked myself in the business center and worked on the Food Lion deals. Two hours later we left to head to American Tap Room to meet a friend of mine for dinner.
While I am not a beer drinker I did take this great picture at dinner- do you want to guess if the beer was big or the Tabasco sauce little?
After dinner we went walking around Arlington and found this AMAZING gelato place. I have never had real gelato before so I was thrilled to try it.
They had so many flavors- including Rose and Violet! They actually soak the flower in water and remove the essence to flavor the gelato. I tried violet- it tasted like exactly what you picture violet to taste like. Someone in the store said it tasted like bathroom air freshener.
I settled for a small bowl with banana and wedding cake. On our continued walk while eating our gelato we stumbled across a Whole Foods and like the good tourists we are went inside and exclaimed happiness over everything. Since we don’t have a Whole Foods in our town it’s a nice treat to look around.
After a lovely evening I got back to the hotel to deal with the website craziness some more and be sure that all the grocery deals you all know and love were posted. Then I fell asleep on the couch in our sitting room.
After calling in to 92.9 The Wave this morning we headed out to our conference. A quick metro ride followed by some misdirection around town and we arrived at the conference. I will skip all the boring work stuff except to say that I didn’t have internet access during the entire presentation!
At the conference we also got to hang out with fellow bloggers Amee from Madame Deals, Brandi from Must Love Coupons and Charlotte from My Active Child so after we went to the Pot Belly Sandwich Shop.
During this whole thing I have been e-mailing back and forth with a NEW company trying to get some answers on the hacking situation. Then it was back in the car to fight DC and Hampton Roads traffic.
After teaching piano and voice tonight I am finally home to begin posting deals. I am sorry I wasn’t able to do more today and I promise to continue fighting the evil hacker until all is well in google world. Just know for a while you may want to use www.thefrugalchick.com to get to my site rather than www.afrugalchick.com. They will both get you to the same place.
Thanks so much for sticking with me while we work out all the craziness!
