Commissary Coupon Policy

Being from a navy area, I have always seen what great deals you can get at the Commissary. Someone e-mailed this week and asked for the coupon policy for the Commissaries- I am happy to oblige!

– Commissaries do accept coupons.

– Unless overseas, coupons may not have expired (overseas the coupons are good for six months past expiration date).

– They do not accept competitors coupons.

– They do not double or triple coupons.

– Only one coupon per item- no coupon stacking.

– They do accept internet coupons as long as they are scannable.

– Internet coupons for free items will not be honored.

There is no mention in their policy of a coupon limit or limits on the use of identical coupons.

Locals Only: Frugal Recycling

In my office we had shelves of old electronics. Keyboards, mice, non-working cameras and cell phones with cave man technology were using room I needed for other things. And since I didn’t want these things sitting in a landfill forever I started doing some research trying to find a place that would recycle everything.

I found places that would recycle SOME or places that would gladly recycle it… for a large fee. My frugal nature wasn’t willing to pay an arm and a leg (and I didn’t think I could talk my boss into it.)

Then at dinner one night A Frugal Chick reader Erica told me about a company in Norfolk, VA called “Green Alternatives.” She had taken all of their old electronics to Green Alternatives and they had recycled everything for free!

When I got home, I jumped on the Internet to check them out. It seemed they would take everything in our office and there would only be a charge for one HUGE monitor. Not only that, but they had some pretty great information on their site and some neat things for sale.

So Wednesday morning I loaded up a co-worker’s jeep and we headed down to the Five Points Community Market in Norfolk. I had never been there before and it’s a pretty incredible place. I walked in the back door and the Green Alternatives area was right in front of me. They came out to the car, helped unload the electronics and stored them safely to be recycled. Inside, the cost to recycle everything was only $10!

So for $10 I was able to clean our office shelves and safely dispose of our electronics! Green Alternatives recycles so many other things too: crayons, batteries, light bulbs, drink pouches, yogurt containers and more. For a complete list of the items they recycle, click here.
So if you are in the Hampton Roads area and looking for a frugal way to recycle, I hope you will check out Green Alternatives!

Opinion Outpost

There are many web sites that will pay you for taking surveys. I have used one on a regular basis for the past year and wanted to share it with you. They have been dependable, paid promptly and have never tried to sell me anything. It’s called Opinion Outpost.

Every day they e-mail to let me know I have been randomly selected for survey eligibility (usually once or twice a day). If I have time I log onto their web site and answer a few simple questions to see if I qualify. It usually takes about a minute and if I get to take the survey, the longer it is the more I get paid. I think the longest one I have ever taken took about fifteen minutes.

After I have $5 worth of surveys completed I can request a check. It usually arrives at my house in about two weeks. I have never had any problems with them and their site is very easy to use.

You probably won’t be able to pay the mortgage with the money you make, but a few extra bucks can go a long way right before payday! I have taken surveys on electronics, insurance, travel and other topics like these. Click here to check them out. If you like what you see, sign up and you can start making money right away!
