Things To Buy Beginning December 26th

Things to buy after Christmas

Some tempting deals happen on Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday and the other plethora of shopping holidays that have been created this time of year. But some of the best deals are to be had AFTER the man in red has made his deliveries.

And let’s be honest- most of us don’t get everything on our list.   Or maybe we have been holding off buying something for ourselves.

So let’s take a look at the items to buy beginning December 26th:

Christmas Decorations: I hate to start with the obvious (you guys are deal seeking professionals) but beginning on December 26th is the best time to buy your decorations for next year.  Especially Christmas trees.  If yours is looking shabby this year it might be time to upgrade.  I have always found the best deals at Target, Home Depot and Lowes on all these items.

Fitness Gear: Fitness gear tends to be a better deal in January not because its peak selling season is over, but because it’s just beginning.  With New Year’s Resolutions to get in shape and lose weight, these companies slash prices because they know you are going to spend the money and they want it.  The big discounts, however, are if you can wait just a little bit longer.  In March all those treadmills, exercise bikes and weight sets will be on Craigslist.

Furniture: Home furniture has a season just like cars and electronics.  Furniture makers release new models in February so stores need to clear out in January for new stock.  Please note mattresses are best priced in April.

Name Brand Electronics:   It seems like the stores have paraded out all their good electronics deals during Black Friday week right?  Those are often second- or third-tier brands and this year was no exception.  The expensive digital SLR cameras from companies like Nikon and Canon are after Christmas as well.  New electronics are generally introduced at the Consumer Electronics Show in January.  After that electronics go on sale.

Toys and Spa Sets: When Christmas is over, retailers are left with excess stock of cosmetic sets, toys, spa gift baskets and much more.  This stuff just generally doesn’t sell.  Maybe a toy didn’t do as well as they thought it would- or people really didn’t like a certain perfume.  Particularly at the drug stores, Target and Walmart they will usually have special packages in the health and beauty section with things like razors, shampoo or make-up.

Winter Clothing: Retailers will offer discounts on coats, sweaters and other cold-weather clothing during Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. However, the deals will be even better in January when stores have clearance sales on winter apparel to make room for spring clothing.   I feel like the bathing suits hit the shelves earlier and earlier every year.

So hang on just a little bit longer and don’t be swayed by last minute deals- some of the best is yet to come!
