Have you thought about Visiting OBX Lizard Land? We visited Spring Break 2021, and since tickets to popular places were difficult to get with capacity restrictions, we had to do some outside-the-box thinking for somewhere fun to go with my 6-year-old nephew. Because Grandma and I were joining today at the last minute, everything was sold out. So, it was suggested we head to Moyock, NC, and visit Lizard Land.

I had to be honest- I had no idea what to expect. At the time of this post, they don’t have a website, and they do have some social media, but not a ton. I’m always down for an adventure so I jumped in the car, and we were on our way.
Visiting OBX Lizard Land
We missed OBX Lizard Land’s sign as we looked at all the changes in the formerly small town of Moyock, NC. It’s close to the Virginia Line on the coast, and it’s an area that is growing by leaps and bounds. After a quick U-turn we pulled into the parking lot and what was obviously a large family home at some point.
When we walked inside, we were greeted by Paul, who appears to be one-half of the couple who runs this fascinating business. You can immediately see aquariums everywhere filled with reptiles who are looking at you with judgy eyes the way only a reptile can.
After paying our admission fee, he told us to feel free to wander inside and check out the occupants. Once we were ready, he would allow us to touch and hold some reptiles before we went outside to check things out further.
Someone is expecting babies soon!
We weren’t the only ones checking out our surroundings!
Defying gravity!
I loved the colors on this guy!
Someone wasn’t so sure about holding a whole snake, but he could handle the tail.
This little guy was the highlight of the visit. We ALL held him. His little webbed feet and soft skin made him so much fun to play with.
Once we had experienced everything inside we headed outside. Please note that some of these animals will be inside if the weather is cool. We were on a nice day, so it was good.
The parrots were super cute.
Eastern box turtles- a staple in Virginia- have a nice home here. They have obviously been raised in captivity because they were super friendly!
Their newest animals- some baby Emu! Emus?
Since they want them to be friendly hand feedings are happening often!
While you won’t spend hours there, it was worth the admission price for a six-year-old boy to see so many cool reptiles. So, if you are interested in a quick trip to meet some interesting creatures check out OBX Lizard Land on Facebook!
** Disclaimer: These guys did not know I would write about them because I didn’t know them then. We got no special treatment or anything. This should be exactly the type of visit you would have! **
