With the announcements of even longer periods of quarantine special shopping hours at stores are becoming more normal. I have had a few readers ask as their parents are getting itchy to get out of the house but want to do so safely.
As always, double-check that your local store is participating and you can inquire about what they determine to be at-risk (such as being pregnant or immune compromised). The age for what people consider senior may vary from store to store as well.
Seniors and At-Risk Grocery Store Hours
Albertsons – At a minimum, the company will reserve every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 a.m. for those vulnerable shoppers who must leave home to obtain their groceries, unless otherwise locally mandated. Customers should check their store’s hours if they’re opening on a different schedule.
Aldi – Every Tuesday and Thursday 1 hour before opening
Acme – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 am
Big Lots – Everyday first hour of business
BJ’s – Everyday from 8-9 am
Costco – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 8-9 am
Dollar General – Everyday first hour of business
Food Lion– appears not to be participating at this time
Fresh Market– Is reserving the first hour stores open, from 8 to 9 a.m., for “seniors and those most at risk” Monday through Friday.
Giant – Everyday from 6-7 am
Harris Teeter – Harris Teeter is designating Monday and Thursday mornings from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. as senior shopping hours for shoppers aged 60 and over. To further enhance our commitment to protecting our senior shoppers, Harris Teeter will designate ExpressLane Online Shopping pick-up times from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for seniors only every Thursday until further notice AND will waive the $4.95 fee & offer $5 delivery for seniors during these times.
This will allow our senior shoppers to take advantage of their 5% Senior Club discount every Thursday, and it will provide a genuine opportunity for our senior shoppers to purchase what they need while practicing the CDC’s recommended social distancing guidelines.
Hy-Vee – Every day 7-8 am
Jewel-Osco – Every Tuesdays and Thursday 7-9 am
Kroger Mid-Atlantic– the first hour of operation on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays to seniors (those over 60) and other at-risk customers
Market Street – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 am
Publix – Every Tuesday and Wednesday from 7-8 am
Price Chopper – Everyday from 6-7 am
Safeway – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 am
Smith’s Food & Drugs – Every Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays from 7-8 am
Stop & Shop – Everyday from 6-7:30 am
Sedanos – Everyday from 7-8 am
Target – Every Wednesday first hour of business
Trader Joes – Everyday first hour of business
The Fresh Market – Everyday from 8-9 am
Vons – Every Tuesday and Thursday from 7-9 am
Walgreens- Every Tuesday from 8-9 am
Walmart – Every Tuesday one hour before store opens starting March 24
Wholefoods – Everyday one hour before store opens
