A few months ago I was contacted by Trish, the Executive Director of CHIP (Chesapeake Health Investment Program) who asked if I thought the couponers in Hampton Roads would want to help a great organization. They operate in a larger area but their offices are located in Chesapeake.
The mission of CHIP is to improve young children’s health and promote wellness and self- sufficiency in low-income families, through partnerships with local communities. During the year the families that work with CHIP earn points for various activities (doctors visits, nutrition training etc).
In December CHIP opens a store where their participants can come and cash in their points for items. Most of these items end up being toys and gifts due to the time of year. And while these gifts are great many of these families don’t need toys- they need things like toothpaste, toilet paper and shampoo.
That is where couponers come in. We know how to get these items for free or practically free. And odds are you have extras lying around your house you could donate. Let’s do what we can to make this a happy holiday for local families!
Let’s CLIP for C.H.I.P.!
Our goal is 2,000 items by December 7th. CHIP will also need volunteers to work at the sale if you are interested.
There are several ways to donate items.
1. Pick Up. If you have 100 items or more, you can call and CHIP will come and pick the items up. To arrange for pick up call Blanca Ansbro at 757-543-9100 ext 212. This will enable you to receive a receipt for tax purposes.
2. Drop Off. Several locations around Hampton Roads will be accepting items. Here are those locations and their hours:

If all of us come together we can make a huge difference in some people’s lives! Let’s get these 2000 items in and show Hampton Roads what couponers can do!
D- please contact Blanca Ansbro at 757-543-9100 ext 212 and she can answer that question for you!
Yes Margary- anything you would buy at a drug store is exactly what they need!
What other items would they like donated? Laundry soap, dish soap, shaving cream, floss? I have many personal and home care items in my stockpile I can donate!
I am looking for a place to donate afghans that I make…they range in size for a lapghan for an adult to toddler. Just depends on the yarn I have. Could you/would you like these to distribute to your families?
I’d love to have information on volunteering for the December 7th.
I will do a post about actually volunteering as well because I am going to try to free my schedule that day too. 🙂
This is a great idea. So is the actual event on the 7th? Or is it best to call CHIP and find out the details about volunteering?
