I sit. Alot. Too much.
This week especially. In shows, during coupon tutoring, watching television, in church and while in conversation with friends.
So adding 6 – 10 hours a day sitting at my desk was just too much.
I could literally feel my rear end spreading out in spite of my time at the gym. There are not enough squats in the world to undo it.
Additionally more and more bloggers have been sending me articles about the dangers of sitting so many hours a day– even if you do work out on a regular basis.
So today I decided I was going to do it- jerry-rig my desk and turn it into a standing desk.
I didn’t want to spend any money so for right now I just used items I have around my house (doesn’t the paper box just look so professional?!). If this turns out to be a good solution I might come up with something a little less tacky looking!
Do any of you have a standing desk or just feel like you are going nuts at your desk?
You do so much and Im very grateful…you go for that desk! Whatever gives you a change of scenery. I don’t blame ya! Take care ;0)
I worked for a call center that had desks on risers. You could sit or you could raise the desk to any level up to standing position. The computer monitor, keyboard, and phone where all on the same flat surface that moved with a lever. That way you never had to stay in any position for very long and everything you needed moved with you.
You may want to look into a large exercise ball that way you can stay in motion while you’re blogging! You may even be able to snag one on the cheap via CraigsList.
My husband used a standing desk before he retired. When he worked from home he usually set his computer up on the high counter (big stool snack bar) and stood to work. Got a snack bar? It worked great for him.
yep. i am a medical transcriptionist and sit at my desk a lot, too. i have to break up my day into small chunks or i go crazy. i work for an hour or two and then go outside and work in the garden or play with the kids for 30 mins or so and then go back to work for a few hours, and so on.
