On Monday Amazon will officially acquire Whole Foods. Since this was announced Amazon has said they would lower prices. I assumed we would start to see Whole Foods in store brand on Amazon (their 365 Everyday Value brand is actually not that expensive and good quality).
But discounts for Prime members? That’s a nice bonus.
Today there was a press release and some really nice information was revealed:
- Whole Foods has announced beginning Monday they will lower prices on some of their best selling grocery staples. Customers will enjoy lower prices on products like Whole Trade bananas, organic avocados, organic large brown eggs, organic responsibly-farmed salmon and tilapia, organic baby kale and baby lettuce, animal-welfare-rated 85% lean ground beef, creamy and crunchy almond butter, organic Gala and Fuji apples, organic rotisserie chicken, 365 Everyday Value organic butter, and much more.
- Amazon Prime members will eventually be integrated into the point of sale system. When this is complete Prime members will receive special savings and in-store benefits.
- We will begin to see Whole Foods products online through Amazon.com. I am most excited about this.
- Amazon Lockers will be available at select Whole Foods Market stores. This isn’t exactly a big shock- if the real estate is there you might as well use it.
I am sure there will be many more changes but this was a nice surprise! And yet another reason to make sure my Amazon Prime membership always stays current!
