Amazon has ended their price matching refund policy for everything except televisions.
For most people this wasn’t even a service they knew was offered. Because from what I understand it was kind of a pain and was difficult to monitor.
Until recently.
Which is why most people seem to think they cancelled it.
Amazon’s price match policy previously allowed customers to ask the company to refund the difference if an item they purchased was marked down on the website within seven days of being delivered. However, customers noted that Amazon has now updated its policy to state that it will only offer post-purchase adjustments on televisions.
Many people think this is due to a new crop of websites. I don’t know anything about them but I am not sure how I missed them. Basically you buy an item and set an alert. If the price drops, the site e-mails you to let you know. Some of the apps even processed the rebates for you! One of the sites said that over 50% of the rebates they processed were for Amazon.
Amazon wasn’t too happy about that for security reasons either. In order to have the company process the rebates for you, you had to give them your Amazon user name and password. I know I wouldn’t feel very comfortable about that- my credit card information is on there!
So just know now only if you buy a television from Amazon will you be able to do the price match refund.
Don’t worry- many stores will still price match in-store up to 7 days. I know it’s not as convenient as online shopping but it’s still another way to be frugal!
