Once a month I meet with friends for a game night. Progressively we have gotten into more complicated games and I have found it cuts back on our talking time too much. I only see these friends once a month- we need to catch up while we play!
Last month on Amazon the game Chronology was below $15 on Amazon and it had a PERFECT five star rating. After reading the description I decided to grab it for our next game night!
I was pleased when I received the directions to see the game would be easy for us to play and still carry on conversations between turns. Additionally it would likely lead to other conversations about pop culture, history, innovation and other topics!
This is a picture of me getting my butt kicked by the player on my left.
The game is pretty simple. Everyone starts with one car that has a date and an event. If you look at the picture above you can see my card “The television sitcom ‘I Love Lucy’ debuts on CBS” and the date is 1951. This was my starter card.
Then when my next turn comes up the player to my right reads another event. I have to guess if it happened BEFORE 1951 or AFTER. If I guess right I get to keep the card. Then it continues until you have 10 cards with the events all correctly lined up!
And that’s it! Last night we learned about the invention of mayonnaise, morse code, Japanese government officials, the first NFL game played outside of the US and all kinds of other interesting events. Dates ran from 60 A.D. to 2005 I believe.
Because of the knowledge required it is ages 14 and up. There was no “adult content” in the game. So if you are looking for a low key game for game night I highly recommend Chronology !
