Easy Paper Plate Watermelon Craft- Use this easy craft to teach fractions, multiplication, addition, subtraction and more!

That watermelon looks so good I want to take a bite!  But this is your chance to use watermelon to teach some math.

With this short list of supplies (most of which you probably already have at the house) you can do this Easy Paper Plate Watermelon Craft and use it to do multiplication, addition, subtraction or fractions!

Easy Paper Plate Watermelon Craft

Supplies:

Paper plate

Red and green crayons

Scissors

Ruler

Pencil

Packet of watermelon seeds

Instructions:

  1. Color the edge of the plate green and the center of the plate red. Using a ruler and pencil, draw lines to create eight equal sections on the paper plate. Cut out each section along the lines.
  2. To use the watermelon for fraction practice: Create different fractions of the whole using the different pieces.
  3. To use the watermelon for addition practice: Place a different number of seeds on each watermelon piece, then add the seeds together to find the correct sum.
  4. To use the watermelon for multiplication practice: Place an equal number of seeds on each watermelon piece, then use multiplication facts to find the sum of each equation.
  5. To use the watermelon to practice patterns: Create patterns with the number or placement of seeds on the watermelon pieces, then ask the student to recreate the pattern.
