It’s been probably 15 years since I have been to a water park. I had really bad eye sight so as a kid water parks just weren’t fun. I either spent the day blind as a bat or trying to find dry cloth to clean the ever appearing spots off of my glasses.
Thanks to the wonders of contact lenses water parks are a little bit easier for me now. So when I had the chance to check out Water Country USA ® [1] with my two year old niece and four year old nephew I jumped at the opportunity.
While the park has many things for older kids to do we found plenty for little kids too. We started in the Cow-a-Bunga area which was a great first place for two kids who have never been to a water park. The water was all extremely shallow and there were two small slides. One was a short slide where the kids could get used to being in an inner tube. You can check out this photo of myself and my niece at the end of that one. I was so worried she was going to go flying out but she held on and laughed the entire time.
Our next stop was Kritter Korral. This area has fun fountains, splash zones and scaled-down water slides in the shape of their favorite sea creatures. My nephew was very focused on the whale and the alligator.
Small slides, a two-foot-deep pool, a fountain and several spraying stations are just the right size to explore. There was also a little pool area with a few inner tubes where they could play.
After making sure the life vests were securely fastened we hit the wave pool. They both practically fell asleep just floating in the waves We spent about half an hour there and then grabbed a quick lunch.
Our last stop for the day was the Hubba Bubba Highway. Almost every time I talked to someone about the park this ride came up and now I can easily see why. It’s basically a big circle with a strong current. You just get in with a life vest and float. It requires almost no effort on your part and everyone smiles the entire time for no real reason you can figure out. The kids just hung onto the adults and laughed the whole time.
Both kids were sad when we told them it was time to come home. My nephew said he would love to come back and since Water Country USA ® is included with their Busch Gardens Williamsburg PreSchool Pass [2] we can for FREE!
And of course it’s always wonderful to see this on the way home!
