The Giver (Newbery Medal Book) by Lois Lowry

I have never heard of this book but it has over 3,000 pieces of feedback so someone has read it!

Right now on Amazon you can download “The Giver” by Lois Lowry.

I think I might actually get this one- it sounds like a mind opening read.

In a world with no poverty, no crime, no sickness and no unemployment, and where every family is happy, 12-year-old Jonas is chosen to be the community’s Receiver of Memories. Under the tutelage of the Elders and an old man known as the Giver, he discovers the disturbing truth about his utopian world and struggles against the weight of its hypocrisy. Gradually Jonas learns just how costly this ordered and pain-free society can be, and boldly decides he cannot pay the price.

As always this is Amazon- the price can change any moment.

One of my favorite books of all time. I taught it to my eighth grade class the year I taught LA. Everyone should read it. Be ready to have to ask yourself some hard questions!
