Locals: The Washington Post Subscription Instead of The Virginian Pilot?

Yesterday I was cutting coupons with a blogger friend (yep we do that) and some of her inserts had different covers on them then mine do.  I asked her what was up and she nonchalantly said they were from The Washington Post.

Now occasionally I will stop by the store on Sunday and grab a Post but not every week- they are around $3!

She explained to me she has The Washington Post dropped on her front porch every Sunday morning.  I had no idea it could be delivered here!

You see I love The Virginian Pilot but they have one major flaw- they do not have the Red Plum Insert inside.

So I went online and checked out The Washington Posts website– my zip code is included in their delivery area now!

Currently you can get a year’s subscription to The Washington Post for $.99 a week for a paper with potentially better coupons plus ALL the inserts.  Right now I am going to have it delivered each week along with my Virginian Pilot.

I still have about 5 months left on my subscription to the Virginian Pilot so I don’t have to make a decision for a while about what I will do.

But if I don’t have any delivery issues with The Washington Post- The Pilot is in danger of being cancelled!

*Offer only valid in limited locations within The Post’s 7-day home-delivery area for new subscribers and those who have not been a Post subscriber for the past 30 days. You will be charged a one-time payment for the initial 52-week subscription period. After 52 weeks pay $2.50/week.

Many people do but you can’t buy extra copies of it. This would allow me to get multiple copies if there is a hot coupon!

Sometimes when you buy a newspaper at the store, they will have special deals to subscribe in them as well! I’ve had this work with both the LA Times and San Diego Union Tribune. When your initial year or whatever promotional period is over, if you call in and ask, you can usually get that same rate again. (I’m on my second year of $.50 a week for LA Times!) BTW, this call in and ask trick also works for cable/internet promotions. I’ve done it many times with AT&T and Cox, and have never been told no! No guarantees, but if you have a few extra minutes, it can be a lot of savings!

FYI, I get the Red Plum Insert here in Portsmouth but it comes on Tuesday with the weekly ads for Papa johns and other stuff.
