Jana’s Summer Book Review: Cinder (Book 1 In The Lunar Chronicles)

As a middle school English teacher and now a librarian I have read a lot of books. A LOT OF BOOKS! From easy readers, young adult, adult, and non-fiction; you name it I have read it. With so many good classics and new books coming out daily I have learned to become quite critical of what I read. For me a good book has good character development, plot, and whether or not it hooks me in within the first couple of chapters.

This summer I have a long list of books to read and plan to share only what I would consider to be the “must reads” with you.

The first book I would like to share with you is Cinder by Marissa Meyer [1]. It is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles and is written for young adults. After reading it though, I think adults will enjoy it just as much.

Cyborg Cinder, a second-class citizen is a wiz mechanic with a mysterious past. Hated by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness she is treated horribly at home. After a visit from the handsome Prince Kai at work, she finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Filled with struggles of freedom, loyalty, and betrayal, Cinder must explore her past in order to reveal the truth. The future of the world is in her hands!

Cinder [2] by Marissa Meyer was a fresh twist on Cinderella that I found irresistible. I could not put it down until it was finished. Author Marissa Meyer did an amazing job keeping the reader on their toes.  And unlike most trilogies, the second book, Scarlet, is just as good if not better than Cinder! The third book will be out early 2014.

Amazon [2] is selling the paperback for $8.99 or get it on your kindle for just $6.49 (of course those prices can change). That is a steal for a great summer read!
