I am so excited about my new series “52 Books in 52 weeks.” I hope I will be able to recommend some great books to you!
The first book I chose to read this year was “Heat Rises“. It is the third in the Nikki Heat series by the fake writer Richard Castle.
Richard Castle is a character perfectly portrayed by Nathan Fillion on ABC’s hit television show “Castle.” His character is a writer who tails Kate Beckett, a detective with the NYPD. With her as his muse he has created the character Nikki Heat and writes these fictional novels. Whoever the ghost writer is for the series he or she does an excellent job.
If you have never seen the show on ABC it’s a great watch but you don’t have to see it in order to appreciate the books.
Having read the first two books in the series “Heat Wave” and “Naked Heat” I already knew what to expect. The writing style in the books is very easy to read. There are some clever pop culture references but the books can operate completely independent of the television series.
The bizarre murder of a parish priest at a New York bondage club is just the tip of an iceberg that leads Nikki Heat to a dark conspiracy that reaches all the way to the highest level of the NYPD. But when she gets too close to the truth, Nikki finds herself disgraced, stripped of her badge, and out on her own as a target for killers with nobody she can trust. Except maybe the one man in her life who’s not a cop. Reporter Jameson Rook.
I always find these books a fun read- hence having read all 3 of the ones that have been published. They are a great easy detective read!
Overall I would give the book a PG-13 rating- there are some adult situations but none of the hard language that tends to show up in mystery novels.
So if you like mystery novels and some good, dry humor check out “Heat Rises” by Richard Castle!
For those of you who read Heat Rises what did you think?
Next week I will be reviewing “A Decadent Way To Die” by G.A. McKevett. I got it at the library since the paperback does not come out until March.
