Easy to Make Disney Princess Moana Cake
Have you seen the new Disney Princess Moana? She has a beautiful new symbol that makes a fantastic looking cake!
We chose to use blue icing to represent the water and give it a sort of wavy look. I also want to use Polynesian flavors- it was INCREDIBLY good. Nice and sweet with a fruity taste- the guava was a nice touch.
Easy to Make Disney Princess Moana Cake
Cake:
• 1 package yellow cake mix or strawberry cake mix
• 1-1/3 cup guava juice
• 3 eggs
• 1/3 cup vegetable oil
Cake directions:
Bake cake according to package directions, substituting guava juice for water.
**Note: I made two eight inch round cakes but you could certain just do a square cake and skip the filling. **
Optional Filling Ingredients:
1/2 can Goya guava paste (I actually found this at my local grocery store- much easier than I thought)
8 tsp sugar
3 tablespoons water
Optional Filling Instructions:
- Cut the guava paste into small cubes and place in a small saucepan along with the sugar and water.
- Bring to a boil then reduce the heat and simmer until the guava is completely dissolved and resembles a sauce.
- Remove from heat and cool completely.
- Lay the bottom cake out and put a ring of white icing around the edge to act as a reservoir. Then put the desired amount of the filling in. We used about half of it and felt that would be sweet enough.
- Put the top half on and press down.
Icing Ingredients:
We used buttercream icing purchased at the store but you could certainly use regular icing from the grocery store since you are just covering the cake with it (stuff from the store isn’t great for creating designs). Or make your own buttercream. You may even be able to find blue in the store and save yourself the next trip.
Directions for the Icing:
- Put a crumb layer on the cake. This is a thin layer to catch all the crumbs from the cake so that they do not go into the icing you can see. Stick the cake back in the fridge.
- Take the remaining icing and put in a decent sized bowl. You can either use blue icing coloring (available at your local craft or cake store) or just use blue food coloring until you get the color you want. Just stir it together until it looks like a beautiful ocean.
- Ice the cake as smoothly as you can and put back in the fridge.
- Print the Princess Moana Symbol Cutout (onto cardstock paper if you have it). Cut out the parts that look like sprinkles (this means you will not cut from the edge of the paper- you are making a stencil).
- Once the icing has hardened a bit from the fridge gently place the stencil on the top of the cake. Take a tiny bit of leftover icing and put it in the stencil to make that part a little more sticky.
- Fill the stencil with edible glitter, sprinkles or you could use the Color Mist spray to make your design. We found the large edible glitter worked really well because it was large enough to put down slightly in the icing and not disappear.
