I have to admit… this is a pretty cool website.

The amazing Savings.com has introduced me to DonorChoose.org.  Approximately 40 percent of schools across the U.S. use DonorsChoose.org, an innovative online charity that makes it easy for anyone to help students in need.

Here’s how it works: public school teachers from every corner of America post classroom project requests on DonorsChoose.org.  Requests range from pencils for a poetry writing unit, to violins for a school recital, to microscope slides for a biology class.  Then, you can browse project requests and give any amount to the one that inspires you. Once a project reaches its funding goal, we deliver the materials to the school.

And because Savings.com ROCKS they gave me a $25 donation I could give on my own.

I don’t have any teacher friends with programs right now so I looked for Arts projects in Virginia.  The one that caught my attention was in Williamsburg, VA and is a relatively small one, so my $25 will make a big difference.  The music teacher is looking for 30 capos for their guitar classes.  (For those of you who don’t know a capo is a little piece of heavy duty elastic that you wrap around the neck of a guitar.  By sliding it up and down the neck of the guitar, you can change the key of a song.  So even if you only know three or four chords, you can play it in many different keys!  These are great for beginners.)

I play keyboard but love listening to guitar players.  So I chose to donate my $25 to that project.  Hopefully it will jump start some more donations so they can finish up.

Savings.com is helping make your money go further when you give back to a school in need in the new year! Use the gift code “SAVINGS” any time between January 27th and February 24th on www.donorschoose.org/savings, and Donors Choose will match your donation up to $100.  So if you donate $25 to a project it’s actually a $50 donation!

Check it out!  Maybe you have some teacher friends who would like to participate?
