Today I made a special trip to Harris Teeter for cherries. They have cherries on sale through tomorrow and I have already eaten quite a few of them this week. I wanted to grab some more before the sale was over.
I walked in, mouth watering. In front of me is the big bin with the cherries sign on the front… empty. No cherries for me.
Dejected I headed to customer service.
Why?
To get a rain check for the cherries.
Few people think about getting rain checks for produce but it is actually what most of my rain checks have been for. If you store has a really good price on produce they are probably going to run out at some point. I see it all the time on grapes and cherries.
At Harris Teeter you can get a rain check for any sale item in the flyer. It means that when the item is back in stock no matter what the price you can purchase the item at the sale price. I got a rain check today for 4 lbs of cherries so when they have them back in stock I can still get them at the sale price.
Most stores have slightly difference rain check policies so be sure to check out your local store. Rain checks can be a great way to save on produce!
