Rite Aid: Changes to Wellness Plus Program in 2012

I think I have mentioned a few times how much I LOVE Rite Aid.  And today they released news that will make me love them more.

Rite Aid will introduce Load2Card, a new coupon management program that will allow all wellness+ members to save, manage and redeem Rite Aid and manufacturer coupons available throughout the internet via their wellness+ card. Rite Aid is the first in the drugstore industry to offer this tool. Every week, members will have the opportunity to load an average of
more than $100 in savings directly to their wellness+ card. The coupon savings will automatically be deducted from applicable purchases when customers scan their wellness+ card at checkout. Paper coupons will continue to be accepted.

To enable the direct-to-card savings, on or after Jan. 1, 2012, members simply need to activate and log in to their online wellness+ account on www.riteaid.com. Customers who do not yet have a wellness+ account will also be able to create one at this time and to use Load2Card immediately.

Check back to www.afrugalchick.com as the new year starts for more details!

Thanksgiving Day Drug Store Shopping- Moneymaker

I went to all three drugstores today (something I rarely do).  Even though Rite Aid’s Thanksgiving Ad was incredibly sad this year I did get three things there.

I don’t have time to break it all down by transaction but here is what I bought by store:

Rite Aid: 2 Scrunci Hair Elastics, Phillips Ear Phones

Walgreens: Cottonelle Toilet Paper, 2 Scunci Hair Elastics, Thermacare Heat Patch, 2 Gillette Fusion Aftershaves, Dental Flossers

CVS: Advil 4 ct, Advil 10 ct, Pepto Bismal, Kleenex, AA batteries, Carmex, Soft Lips, Finish Quantum Dishwashing Detergent, Dental Flossers, Peanut Butter M & Ms, and Ear Buds

Between the 4 stores I did 7 transactions.  I did not have store credit at any stores when I started.

My total spent out of pocket was $16.78.

I now have $17.22 in store credit to use on my next visits.

In coupon math we call that a MONEY MAKER!

How did you do?

Want to try the stores yourself?  Check out the deals at CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens.

Rite Aid: 4 Tubes Of Colgate for $3.50 + $3.50 In Store Credit

Last night while teaching a coupon class I stumbled across a GREAT deal on toothpaste this week (11/6 – 11/12) at Rite Aid.  Even without any coupons you can still score 4 tubes of toothpaste for $3.50 plus sales tax.

When you shop at Rite Aid you earn Up Rewards.  These are basically Rite Aid coupons for a certain amount off your total.

This week at Rite Aid they have Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste (4 oz) on sale for $3.50.  When you purchase it you get $3.50 in Up Rewards.  So in coupon math it is FREE.  However you can buy four of them with your Rite Aid Wellness card (which you must have to do any of the transactions) so this can be a big chance to stock up!

Also in the 10/30/11 Smart Source Insert there was a coupon for this item. So feel free to use that on your first transaction if you have it.

Transaction #1: Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste $3.50
Price Out Of Pocket: $3.50 plus sales tax
Plus get $3.50 in Up Rewards

Transaction #2: Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste $3.50
Pay With $3.50 in Up Rewards from Transaction #1
Price Out Of Pocket: Sales Tax
Plus get $3.50 in Up Rewards

Transaction #3: Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste $3.50
Pay With $3.50 in Up Rewards from Transaction #2
Price Out Of Pocket: Sales Tax
Plus get $3.50 in Up Rewards

Transaction #4: Colgate Total Advance Toothpaste $3.50
Pay With $3.50 in Up Rewards from Transaction #3
Price Out Of Pocket: Sales Tax
Plus get $3.50 in Up Rewards

So in the end you have 4 tubes of toothpaste and $3.50 in Rite Aid credit you can use on something else!

If you are in Hampton Roads and need somewhere to donate the toothpaste I have a suggestion!

Rite Aid Halloween Candy Coupon Trip ($1.38 A Bag)

My dad works for a local middle school and for some reason he thinks the kids are worthy of some candy (hee, hee).  So he called last night and asked if I could recommend a candy sale.  I told him I would take care of it today because I knew Rite Aid had a sale on some candy with coupons.

Candy is EXPENSIVE- when I started looking at prices a few weeks ago I couldn’t believe the cost!  So while I enjoy getting things free I knew that probably wasn’t going to happen in this case.

So I checked out the Rite Aid deals for the week and a good deal on Mars candy popped out at me.  I cut two coupons and was on my way to Rite Aid to do two small transactions.

Transaction #1:
6 Bags of Mars “Fun Size” bags of candy (M&Ms, Snickers, Milky Way, 3 Musketeers) $15.00
Used (2) $1.50/3 Mars Candy coupon from 9/25/11 Smart Source Insert
Final Total: $12
But I also earned $5 in Up Rewards

Now I could have used other coupons to buy more candy at a discounted price and made this an AMAZING transaction but my dad specifically requested Tootsie Rolls, which did not have coupons.

Ideal Transaction #2
3 Nestle Fun Size Bags (Butterfinger, Crunch etc) $7.50
Use $1/2 Nestle Fun Bag coupon from October All You Magazine
Or use $1/2 Nestle Fun Bag coupon from 10/16 Red Plum Insert
AND the $1/2 Nestle Rite Aid Printable (yes you can use both on this transaction)
Total: $5.50
Use $5 in Up Rewards from first transaction
Final Price Out of Pocket: $.50

So for 9 bags of candy (chocolate no less!) the total out of pocket would be $12.50 (and your local sales tax). That’s $1.38 a bag!

But I am a good daughter so I got Tootsie Rolls.

Transaction #2
Large Bag of Tootsie Rolls (360 count) $5.99
Used $5 in Up Rewards from Transaction #1
Final Price: $.99

So my total for 7 bags was $12.99 or $1.85 each

Either way- this is a GREAT deal on Halloween Candy (especially since it’s the good stuff)!
