If you are a mom stop in at TCBY on Mother’s Day (May 9th) and pick up a free cup or cone!
On Virginia Beach Blvd in the Birchwood Shopping Center there is a store called “the 39er.” I have been going there for almost three years because of their amazing prices on cards, wrapping paper and party supplies! ALL of the greeting cards in the store are $.39 and include a lot of the same brand names you see in big stores! They have streamers, tablecloths, cups and napkins available in tons of colors and prints at HUGELY discounted prices- most even cheaper than your local dollar store.
With Mother’s Day, graduations and weddings right around the corner, a gift giver can go broke on just the wrapping paper and cards!
And to help you with that, the 39er has exclusively given AFrugalChick.com a new coupon every month! If you look on the right side of my blog, you will see their logo and the words “Click for Coupon!” This month the coupon is good for 25% off one item (anything except cards).
So print out a coupon and make sure to go check them out at 3756 Virginia Beach Blvd in Virginia Beach or give them a call at 757-498-1334!
If you don’t use Swagbucks, you need to check it out! Swagbucks is a search engine, powered by Google, that gives you points for searching the internet. Just use it like you would Google or Bing, but you earn points for seaches. After you have banked enough points, you can trade them in for free items! Plus, they often offer special Swag Codes for additional points as well, so it’s not hard to rack up enough points to redeem often!
With Swagbucks you can earn gift cards (my personal favorite) and other rewards just by searching the internet. IPods, LCD televisions, and IPhones are some of the more fun items in the Swag Store- I personally am getting Amazon $5 gift cards toward a new television. It’s only 45 swag points to get a $5 gift card!
Plus, if you use this link here you can earn 30 Swag Bucks just for signing up!
Reader Bob sent me a great tip about free Subway breakfast!
If you live in MN or WI, call your local Subway and see if they are participating! On Friday April 30, Subway restaurants in MN and WI will be offering a free breakfast sandwich before 11am.
It has been a LONG time since I posted about Ebates, so I figured I should mention it to my new readers! This is the single, easiest way to get a percentage of what you spend on the internet back in your pocket.
Here is how it works:
Step One: You log onto ebates and search for the store where you want to shop or the item you want to purchase. Hit the search button. Let’s say I am searching for Baby Gap in an effort to further spoil my nephew.
Step Two: Two things will show up on the results page. One is a list of all possible matches for the store or item you were looking for. Next to each will be a percentage you can get back if you purchase something on that web site. It can be anywhere from 2% up to 25% or more.
Step Three: Then click on the orange button that says “Shop Now”. In my case it will takes me to the same Baby Gap web site I would have reached by typing in www.babygap.com.
Step Four: Shop like you normally would. You get the same discounts, and can enter in any sales or free shipping codes you have.
Then, about 24 hours after the purchase, the percentage of the total spent will be credited to your ebates account. It’s like an additional discount on your shopping.
So let’s say I go to Baby Gap and I spend $50.00 on my nephew, at an 8% rebate. In a day or two, there will be $4 (8% of $50) sitting in my ebates account.
Once you reach $5 you can request a check and it will come in the mail at the end of the quarter. Or you can just leave it until you need to cash out for something special.
Sound too good to be true? How about the fact that it’s FREE! Yep, doesn’t cost you a penny. AND if you sign up through this link you also get a $5 sign up bonus
(I have used them for a while now and I promise it’s the real deal. They do e-mail me about once a week to let me know if any stores have really good rebates but I have never gotten any spam or pop ups on my computer from using this web site.)
Give it a shot, I promise you will love it!
If you are joining me the first time after watching WVEC, welcome!

It’s true. The Young Musicians of Virginia are auctioning off a lunch date with yours truly. I had no idea I was worth the trouble! But I wanted to give them a shout out for giving me the ego boost (and giving my friends something to laugh at hysterically!)
Seriously though, the Young Musicians of Virginia is a great organization. As a musician myself, I can not communicate how valuable the influence of my choral and vocal instructors was. Not to mention how my love of music even still affects my life.
So if you don’t have plans Friday night and an auction sounds like fun, check out their website for all the info!
One thing I have noticed in my short time couponing is that often the big three drugstores (CVS, Rite Aid and Walgreens) will have the same item on sale at the same time. This week there is one such item. It’s a great chance to show how the rebate programs work at each of these drug stores.
All three drug stores have the new Kotex pads/tampons on sale this week. But the sales and it’s results for you as a consumer are very different. (Of course, you could always get the product at all three stores and save a ton!)
Rite Aid (my personal favorite): You go in and pay $3.49 out of pocket. When you get home, you log into the Rite Aid Single Check Rebate program and enter the information off your receipt. At the end of the month, you receive a check for $3.49.
Total Out of Pocket: $3.49
Total Received back in cash: $3.49
Total Store Credit: $0.00
Final price after rebate: FREE
(AFrugalChick reader Erica pointed out there was a $1 coupon in the paper on Sunday in most regions. If you use that $1 coupon at Rite Aid, you will actually make a $1 profit off of your purchase!)
Walgreens: You go in and pay $3.49 out of pocket. When your receipt prints, there is a small certificate on the bottom of the receipt. It is worth $2.50. Your next purchase at Walgreens you can use that certificate to redeem $2.50 worth of merchandise (often times people will use it almost immediately).
Total Out of Pocket: $3.49
Total Cash Back: $0.00
Total Store Credit: $2.50
Final price after store credit: $.99
CVS: You go in and pay $4.99 out of pocket (using your CVS card). At the end of the transaction, a certificate prints out worth $1.00 at CVS. Your next trip, you can use the certificate to redeem $1.00 worth of merchandise.
Total Out of Pocket: $4.99
Total Cash Back: $0.00
Total Store Credit :$1.00
Final Price after store credit: $3.99
So there is a breakdown of the three main drug stores and how to save money at each. I am extremely biased to Rite Aid (I like cash) but you do have to wait a while before you get your money back. The other two stores will give you credit you can use right away.
Whichever you choose, you know that combining coupons, rebates and gift certificates you can always find fantastic deals!
