Miracles Still Happen And Happy Easter

Happy Easter to all of my amazing readers!  I hope you have a wonderful day with friends and family however you celebrate.

For me this week has been a time of reflection as it has been for many of my local readers.  In case you haven’t seen the news on Friday in Virginia Beach an F/A-18D fighter jet crashed into an apartment building.

For those of you who don’t live here you have to understand- we see these planes ALL THE TIME.  It’s not at all unusual to be at a drive thru and have to pause to finish your order until a plane flies over because they are so loud.  Sometimes the window panes in your house rattle just a little bit when they are training.  The very loud noises are a very common occurance while you are walking the boardwalk at the Oceanfront.  Having jets flying around my town is just part of our life.  It’s the sound of freedom.

Somewhere in the back of my mind was always the wonder of “what if they crashed” but in my thirty some odd years here that has never happened.  Until Friday.  And what could have been one of the most devastating accidents in my town’s history has turned out to be a miracle.  While the loss of personal possesions by some of the residents of the ruined apartments will take time to recover, there has been no loss of life.  It has made this Easter weekend a time of even more celebration for those of us marveling at a modern day miracle.

I hope that you and your family see many miracles today just as Mary did when she found the empty tomb!

“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!”- Luke 24

Book #9: “The Killing Edge” by Heather Graham

Welcome to week 9 of the “52 Books in 52 Weeks” series!  If you haven’t seen all the books take a moment and catch up!

Years ago I read “Ghost Walk” by Heather Graham and loved it so I thought I would give another one a try.

At the library I grabbed “The Killing Edge.”  The reason I like Graham’s books is because I enjoy having a little bit of Supernatural in my stories and she has just enough ghostly stuff to make me happy.

The one thing I don’t like about the books is that you can tell in about ten pages which guy and girl are going to hook up.  I have to confess I skip alot of the “hook up” scenes cause they are a bit racier than I am comfortable with.  If you enjoy a good bodice ripper I have a feeling there is some content for you too in here.

The plot of this book is pretty simple: Part-time model and psychologist Chloe Marin, a traumatized survivor of what was billed as the Teen Massacre at a Florida beach house 10 years earlier, has new reason to be afraid. Colleen Rodriguez, one of the models at Chloe’s Miami Beach agency, has gone missing while on a shoot in the Florida Keys. Investigating Colleen’s disappearance is PI Luke Cane, whose tortured past makes him a perfect match for Chloe, and the pair soon give in to their mutual attraction. Complementing the sensual love scenes are Chloe’s chilling visions of ghosts of the victims of her horrific brush with death as a high school senior. Just when Chloe thinks she can look happily to the future, eerie similarities surface between a crime in New Orleans and the massacre.

I will give Graham credit for one thing- I had NO IDEA who the bad guy was until they revealed it.  It was surprising.  I love the way she describes New Orleans and the other cities she uses for backdrop- she has such an appreciation for the area and it’s rich history.  It makes me want to go visit the area and take it all in!

Her writing is very easy to read and I find her characters very relateable.  I usually read her books in one or two sittings because you get sucked in.  None of them have kept me up until 2 a.m. but they definately keep me engaged.

If you want to read next week’s book it is “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”  At the time I am writing this I am not finished with it yet but the first 2/3 have been SPECTACULAR.

SOPA Is Dead

The American public has spoken and by bonding together we have been heard.

SOPA is dead.

If you saw my post on Wednesday thank you for support.

The committees are still working toward a more acceptable solution and hopefully the next time a bill like this is presented it will be something that helps with the on-line piracy issue without jeopardizing the rest of us!
