WVEC and Relay for Life Update

Last Sunday morning on WVEC, I challenged 100 people to leave a comment on my blog. For every one that did, I would donate 50 cents to Relay for Life for Wayne Carter- to the maximum of $50. So far I have received about 25 comments and 9 e-mails asking me to donate (I will do an official head count later, but it’s nowhere near 100). So that still leaves lots of room for people to leave me comments. Just add a comment to this post and tell me hi!

Mega Swag Bucks Day!

Don’t forget today is Friday . . . . . That means Mega Swagbucks Day!!! That means that you can win up to 100 Swagbucks just for searching the internet!!!

If you don’t use Swagbucks, you need to check it out! Swagbucks is a search engine, powered by Google, that gives you points for searching the internet. Just use it like you would Google or Bing, but you earn points for seaches. After you have banked enough points, you can trade them in for free items! Plus, they often offer special Swag Codes for additional points as well, so it’s not hard to rack up enough points to redeem often!

With Swagbucks you can earn gift cards (my personal favorite) and other rewards just by searching the internet. IPods, LCD televisions, and IPhones are some of the more fun items in the Swag Store- I personally am getting Amazon $5 gift cards toward a new television. It’s only 45 swag points to get a $5 gift card!

Plus, if you use this link here you can earn 30 Swag Bucks just for signing up!

Who Uses Coupons?

I get asked this question often. Most people assume that lower income families, the ones who are really scraping to get by, are the most frequent users. Study after study, we are finding this is not the case.

Not surprisingly coupon usage has increased during the recent recession. In the last quarter of 2008, coupon usage increased 16.7% compared to the last quarter of 2007 (source). Also during 2008, 3.3 billion coupons were used, up 27% from 2007. It was the largest annual percentage increase since people started tracking these numbers twenty years ago (source).

In the first quarter of 2009, only 32% of homes in the US reported no coupon usage at all (source). Using coupons is becoming an American pasttime. But who are these coupon using people?

The average coupon user is female, under 54 and lives in the burbs. But here is the kicker- the average household income of a coupon user is $70,000 a year. Granted $70,000 in Manhattan doesn’t get you the same kind of life as $70,000 in Omaha, Nebraska but it’s still a good chunk of change to live on.

I think coupons are just another example of how the rich stay rich. Warren Buffet lives in a house he paid $31,000 dollars for and drives an old truck. And I bet he uses coupons.

If the third richest man in the world got that way by being frugal, it’s a band wagon I am happy to jump on!

After Easter Sales- check everywhere!

Now that the baskets have been emptied and the eggs found, Easter items at stores are going to be greatly discounted! And many of the standard Easter items (baskets, grass, stuffed animals) will be just as good next year as they were this year. Going through those clearance racks will surely produce some great deals!

Plus there are many snacks and candies that are sold specifically for Easter- M & M’s, Peeps, Chocolate rabbits and those amazing Reeses eggs come to mind. Since they are not sold year ’round, the stores will need to clear them out! All of these items taste just as good the day after EASTER!
