Upromise

I have seen information on Upromise for a long time on blogs but have never gotten around to checking it out until yesterday. After looking over their website and seeing testimonials on-line, I think this has got to be the easiest way to save some money for future education, whether it be for you or someone else. Also, if you have a current Sallie Mae loan from past education, the money saved can be used to help pay down that balance.

There are two ways to earn money on Upromise once you register.

1- Register your frequent user cards. Most people have a frequent user card for their grocery store and drug store. There are thousands of products that will give you a percentage back if you purchase them using the registered card (all you have to do is use your card for great sales the same way you do now). Once the card is registered it automatically checks for that item. As long as your frequent user card is current this money will always be saved.

2- Upromise e-coupons. Every month upromise loads coupons onto their web site. You then log into your account and select the coupons you would like to load onto your card. Let’s say you get the $1.50 off Huggies coupon. When you go to the store and buy Huggies, $1.50 goes into your Upromise account, even if you are already using coupons in the store.

Here are the coupons that were added for this month:
$0.45/1 Little Debbie 100 Calorie Cakes
$0.50/1 Bounty Napkins
$0.50/1 King Arthur Flour Unbleached Cake Flour

I could write about all of this for a while, but I challenge you to take a few minutes and log onto their website and look around. If you are trying to save for an education imagine what could happen if a whole family came together and registered their cards to help send someone to school!

E-mailing for Coupons 10/7

So last week I e-mailed Bolthouse Farms and Mornings Star Farms, told them how great their products were and asked for coupons.

This week I received coupons in the mail from Bolthouse so I will be forwarding them to Tamra in Florida because she was the one who asked me to e-mail them. So if you like Bolthouse you may want to drop them a line!

Today I am going to contact Borden and POM Wonderful to see if they will send me some coupons in the mail!

I was having some difficulties with my web host last night so I wasn’t able to get the grocery deals up for this morning. As soon as I can get them together I will post them!

Check Your Cell Phone!!

It’s the first of the month so your cell phone bill is probably due in the next ten days or so. When was the last time you sat down and looked at it?

Friday night I had dinner with a good girlfriend I haven’t seen since I started this website. She mentioned that her one cell phone cost as much as her sister AND brother-in-laws combined. Since we were by the mall we ran inside to the store that services her phone and had a chat with the customer service rep. By the time we left, about ten minutes later, her cell phone bill had been cut in half with no change to her service or normal usage.

So I wanted to make a list of the things we checked, so you can check too!

1. How many minutes do you actually use? When my friend’s cell phone was set up, the representative gave her unlimited minutes- the most expensive program. By checking her usage history, the new representative was able to figure out a plan that would allow her to continue talking exactly like she does now, but cost drastically less.

2. How many text messages do you send? Just like her minutes, my friend had been “given” unlimited texting by her representative. She was able to switch to a smaller, cheaper plan and keep texting the same.

3. How much are you paying for internet access? The company my friend has her cell phone with has two identical internet plans. On one (the more expensive of the two) the customer service rep receives commission and on the other they don’t. Guess which one my friend had? Yep, so she switched to the less expensive one.

4. What do you do for a living? My friend is a teacher. And on her carrier, teachers get a 15% discount on their cell phone plans if they provide proof of employment. (I also get a discount on my cell phone for being a student.)

So 4 simple steps and we saved her 50% on her cell phone every month. In her case it will be over $700 a year.

So before you pay your bill this month, take a look at it. Or next time you are in the mall, just drop into the store and ask someone to review your account. You may be surprised how much you can save!
