$39 Kindle 3G + WiFi (After $100 Credit)

This is a really good deal if you were planning on paying for Audible after you get a Kindle.  If not, it will seem ridiculous to you.

Amazon has a program called Audible for their Kindles.  It is $14.95 a month (for 12 months) and with it you get 1 audiobook of your choice per month for that year plus a few other perks.

When you sign up for Audible right now you get a $100 Amazon credit that you can use for a Kindle, Ipod or  MP3 of your choice.

So if you already needed the audio books this could be a great deal for you!  You do have the complete the first 12 months of Audible- there is no cancelling to take advantage of the credit.

Here is how to take advantage of this deal:

1.  Sign up for Audible.  You can check out all the fine print here.

2.  Once you sign up a $100 credit will go into your Amazon account.

3.  The Kindle with 3G and Wifi will be $39 after credit.   OR the Kindle with special offers will be $14!

Remember that you have to sign up for this specific Audible deal, not the free 30 day trial.

Again this is not a deal for everyone, but it could be a substancial savings for some!

Thanks Time 2 Save!

Locals: Make Some Cash Consigning

For those of us who live in Hampton Roads we are lucky to have some amazing consignment sales (one of which is coming up very soon- look for info on Sunday).  But many of these sales are well established and have waiting lists to give them your items to sell.

If you haven’t been lucky enough to get into one of these sales there is a new organization in town who is accepting  consignors for children’s and teens clothing.  And if you are wondering where your kid’s clothes and toys come from and have an idea of where they need to go, this is your chance to sell your gently used items for some cold hard cash.

There are some great perks to consigning at these sales- including a chance to get in early and scoop up the stuff you need the most!  Anna Cruz Consignment is looking to build long term relationships with local consignors.   Their first sale is October 13th so they are looking for consignors now.

Check out her site and see if you have some items in your home that could turn into cash for you!

Healthy Food Can Be Frugal- A KFC Competition

A fellow blogger reminded me today about this recent television commercial from Kentucky Fried Chicken.   Their challenge was that you can not go to the grocery store and buy the same food you would get at KFC for under $10.

The KFC meal comes with 7 pieces of fried chicken, one large side and four biscuits.  I also went on-line and checked KFC’s nutrition information.   Here is the nutrition information for this meal:

2 Chicken Breasts- 21 grams of fat each, 1080 mg of sodium

2 Chicken Wings- 13 grams of fat each, 410 mg of sodium

3 Drumsticks- 10 grams of fat each, 360 mg sodium

4 Biscuits- 8 grams of fat each, 530 mg sodium

And then you get to pick a side so I picked the healthiest one:

Green Bean- 0 grams of fat, 260 mg of sodium

TOTAL OF MEAL: 130 grams of fat and almost 6500 mg of sodium all for $10

So I thought I would compare this to one of our local store chains that people in my coupon classes consider expensive.

You can get a whole fryer chicken (uncooked) for $6.45.  This is about 5 pounds of meat- more than you will get from KFC.  If you are lazy like me you can grab a fully cooked Rotisserie Chicken for $6.99.  (Nutritional information for the chicken varies greatly according to size)

You can get Birds Eye Green Beans in the Steamfresh bag for $2.00 (and there are frequently coupons for these items)- 0 fat, 0 sodium in whole bag

And if you want to go with the most buttery biscuits you can get you can grab the Pillsbury Biscuits – Golden Layers (5 ct) biscuits for $1.00- 4.5 grams of fat each, 360 mg sodium

So even if you are like me and you get the already cooked chicken, the veggies that steam in the bag and the biscuits you pop in the oven your total is $9.99.

Hey look at that- the meal is either $10 or $10.

And even though the nutritional information for the Rotisserie Chicken varies greatly I am willing to bet it’s healthier than the KFC meal.

So when you think you can’t eat frugal and healthy at the same time, remember that a trip to the grocery store can be just as convenient and inexpensive!

American Girls Mini Doll Sale

When I was in Chicago last year I went to the American Girls store.  I have never seen anything like it.  But I was amazed by how much these little girls loved their dolls (we are talking matching outfits here).

Today on Amazon they are having an American Girls Mini Doll sale.  All of their mini dolls are on sale for $14.93 and eligible for free super saver shipping.

While I know some little girls will take nothing but the real thing, a mini doll might be a great stocking stuffer!
