Whole Foods Mid-Atlantic Region: Free Spaghetti Dinner For Armed Forces Members

On Armed Forces Day, May 16th, Whole Foods Market invites the community to join us in thanking those who are serving or have served our nation’s military – and their families – including enlisted service members, reservists and veterans of all United States Military branches, for a free family-style spaghetti dinner.
Our Menu will include:

• Spaghetti & Marinara Sauce
• Buttered Pasta (for the kids)
• Tossed Green Salad
• Fresh Baked Rolls
• Water
• Dessert!

Participating Whole Foods Market locations include Maryland*, Virginia, Washington, D.C., Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Ohio and three of our New Jersey Stores: Cherry Hill, Marlton and Princeton.

*Please note: Our Columbia, Maryland store’s event is on 5/16 from 2-3 pm. All other events are on 5/16 from 5:30-7 pm.

Saturday May 9th: Help Stamp Out Hunger

On Saturday, May 9th, the National Association of Letter Carriers is calling everyone to help “Stamp Out Hunger” with the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the nation and will help feed millions of families in all 50 states!

This is a perfect time for you to go through your stockpile and donate as many non-perishable and unexpired food items as possible to support this cause!  Just put them in a bag and be sure to leave them at your mailbox this Saturday, May 9th as part of the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Your letter carrier will pick up your items and deliver them to local food banks or pantries.

Free Summer Reading Programs

The end of the school year is looming ever closer and trying to find summer activities is always a challenge.  Why not get the kids involved in some of the great Free Summer Reading Programs?

Be sure to check your local libraries- they often have incredible summer reading programs as well.

Check out this list of Nationwide Programs:

Barnes & Noble Imagination Destination – This summer reading program through Barnes & Noble gives your child the ability to earn a FREE book after reading 8 books and keeping track of them in a reading log.

Book Adventure – Sylvan offers this FREE reading incentive program. Basically your child reads books and then takes a simple comprehension quiz to make sure they understood what they read.  The quiz is usually about 10 questions long.  They earn points based on how much they remember from reading the book.

Books-a-Million take a Summer Quest in which you head here and download the Summer Reading Journal, read four books, and turn in your journal to your local Books-a-Million store to get a free Camp Half-Blood Tote Bag.

Chuck E. Cheese – Earn 10 FREE tokens every time your child reads for 2 weeks in a row.  Just fill out the form and bring it in to claim your free token.

Half Price Books – They are offering kids ages 14 and under a chance to earn a $5 Gift Card for reading just 15 each day throughout the summer!

Scholastic Summer Challenge – Log in your reading minutes to the Scholastic site and your child will be able to participate in a World Record challenge as well as earn digital prizes!

TD Bank– your kids can earn $10 to be deposited into their new or existing TD Bank Young Saver Account when they read 10 books. Participating kids need to:

1. Read 10 books this summer.
2. Print out the Summer Reading Form
3. Write down the names of the books they’ve read
4. Take the form to the nearest TD Bank
5. Watch $10 be deposited into a new or existing Young Saver Account

Valid June 1st through August 31st, 2015, for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. Bring form of ID for child for new account opening. Go here for more details.
