Office Max: Duracell Batteries $.01 After Rebate

This came up at the perfect time- I just used my last batteries in my camera!

Office Max is where I prefer to buy my batteries (although sometimes I get them at the drug stores) because of their Max Perks program.

This week I will absolutely be purchasing this deal:

Buy (2) Duracell Batteries $16.99 each
Get $16.98 each back in Max Rewards
Like paying $.01 each after Max Rewards

You must purchase in store.

Below is their disclosure about MaxPerks but here is my version of it in English:

1.  Be sure you are signed up for Max Perks.  You can sign up in the store.

2.  Pick up the batteries you want to buy.  The max you can buy is two packs.  You can check the Office Max flyer for the specific types included.

3.  When you pay at check out they will be $16.99 each.

4.  In a few weeks you will get an e-mail from MaxPerks letting you know that $16.98 per pack has been deposited into your Max Perks account.  Follow the directions in that message and you can take a certificate with you to the store.  It’s basically an Office Max gift certificate for $16.98.  You can use it on almost anything in the store- since I am a couponer I would probably use it on ink for my printer!

* Member’s MaxPerks ID card must be presented at time of purchase; no Bonus Reward adjustments will be made after purchase. All Bonus Reward offers valid in store, online and/or via phone order, unless otherwise indicated. Bonus Rewards issued are based upon price actually paid by Member, as advertised price can be reduced by any applicable coupon or discount. Bonus Rewards for these offers, along with any other rewards a Member may have earned during the same period, will be issued in the next statement cycle in the form of a MaxPerks Reward Card redeemable toward future purchases at OfficeMax®. Reward Cards expire 90 days from date of issuance, except in Florida where they expire one (1) year from date of issuance.

It’s Begun Again: Starbucks Sweet Treat Receipts

Have you ever gotten a Sweet Treat Receipt at Starbucks?

When you make a drink purchase before 2 p.m., you will receive a stamp on your receipt.  Bring that receipt back after 2 p.m. and you can purchase a grande cold drink for $2 after 2 p.m. that same day!

I have only take advantage of this deal once but it was a good deal!  My friend and I got to Starbucks about 1:30, purchased our drinks and then when our drinks ran out we took our receipts back to the counter!  Only paid $2!

This promotion will last through August 18th.

Reminder: Tom’s Shoes Are Coming To Zulily (Nice Discounts)

I have envy issues with Tom’s Shoes.

So I am excited that Tom’s Shoes are going to be on Zulily Wednesday 7/10 at 9 a.m. EST.

Zulily is a daily deal site for moms and kids items.

Go ahead and sign up now so you can get right into the sale on Wednesday- hoping to see some good deals!

The Quickest $5 You Spend

When you do theater there is a lot of down time.  Like the military one of the mottos is “hurry up and wait.”

With technology being the way it is that time is often filled by cell phones (most actors don’t want to carry around something as large as a laptop or a tablet).  Needless to say over the last few weeks I have seen countless hours of Solitaire, Words With Friends, Facebook and Twitter.

The one that particularly amazes me is Candy Crush.

As I watched one of the actors play in a space of a few minutes he spent over $5 on the game. According to a recent article Candy Crush players make the company over $633,000 a day (or $230 million a year).

That’s a lot of money spent at the push of a button.

Companies spend billions of dollars in development trying to figure out how to get us to spend billions of dollars without thinking.  In an era of one click buying a song, movie or television, the slight twinge of pain we get from spending cash has been replaced by the non-commitment of a button.

I’m not sure what the psychology of the game is (as a non-player I can’t understand) but money is money.  Whether you choose to spend $5 on fast food or $5 on games, what is the quickest $5 you spend?  And have you found a way not to spend it?
