I Learned Something While Buying Deodorant at CVS

I love learning new things about shopping with coupons.  Many of them happen by accident- just like this story from yesterday.

CVS is not at all near my house.  While I can pretty much run into a Walgreens every 10 feet and there are 5 Rite Aids between my house and the gym (although I don’t shop there anymore) I have to drive out of my way to go to CVS.

The one exception is every Monday when I head to my voice lesson.  There is one RIGHT by my teacher’s house.  So if I can get my stuff together to head out 10 minutes early I can run in there and grab what I need.

Yesterday I braved the rain, cold and overall grossness because I had $3 in Extra Care Bucks expiring THAT day.  (I know sometimes they will take them expired but I didn’t want to risk it.)  I wanted to take advantage of this deal because it was SO good:

Buy (2) Right Guard Xtreme Clear AP/Deo, 2/$6 Sale Price
Use (2) SAVE $2.00 off any ONE (1) Right Guard® Xtreme Clear® Antiperspirant or Deodorant
Pay $2.00 Out of Pocket
Get Back $1.00 Extra Care Bucks for buying 2
Final Price: $0.50 each when you buy 2!

So I printed my two coupons and went to the store.

When I got there they only had ONE TUBE of the deodorant left- not two.  And I needed two for the deal.  Now the regular price listed on the deodorant was $4.79 and $2 off is a pretty high value coupon.  So I decided I would buy the deodorant anyway.

Here was the deal I was expecting:

Right Guard Xtreme Clear Deodorant $4.79
Use  SAVE $2.00 off any ONE (1) Right Guard® Xtreme Clear® Antiperspirant or Deodorant
Give them $3 in Extra Care Bucks (it would round down to $2.79)
Final Price: FREE

INSTEAD (to my surprise) the deodorant rang up the sales price of $3!  I honestly thought in order to get the sale price I would have to buy TWO tubes of the deodorant.  So here was the deal:

Right Guard Xtreme Clear Deodorant $3.00 (sale price through 3/22)
Give them $3 in Extra Care Bucks
Final Price: FREE

Not only that but on my receipt it specifically shows that I have purchased the one tube.  So if I go to another CVS today and can find one more tube (and use the $2 coupon) I will then get my $1 in Extra Care Bucks when I check out.

I had no idea when the deals were 2 for $XX that you could split it between stores.  Or just buy one at that same price.  I have just always gone to the store prepared to do the whole deal and they have either had the stock or been completely out of it.

I love learning new things!
