Purina Cat & Dog Food

I got a great deal on cat food today that I wanted to pass along, though I am sure it could be used for dog food as well.

The small bags of Purina Cat Food are on sale at Pet Smart for $4.99 with your Pet Perks card.

On 9/13/09 there was a $3 off Purina coupon in the Red Plum insert (this coupon was good for cat and dog food). So I took that with me.

Additionally there was a $1 off coupon stickie on the bag!

When I took them up to the cashier she allowed me to stack them, so my bag of cat food was $.99!

Even without stacking what a great deal!

Harris Teeter Triple Coupon Deals

So this morning I hit up Harris Teeter before work and you can see what I came home with in the picture above. It was not my greatest morning of triple coupons ever, but I wanted to break it down to show you how the sales work. (Prices may be a little different where you live.)

VIVA Big Roll Paper Towels
Regular Price $2.69
1 coupon for $.85 ($.85 tripled is $2.55)
Final price: $.14

Welch’s Grape Jelly
Regular Price $2.29
1 coupon for $.75 ($.75 tripled is $2.25)
Final price: $.04

Ortega Taco Seasoning (2 packages)
Regular Price $2.38 (for both)
1 coupon for $.75 ($.75 tripled is $2.25)
Final price: $.13 for both

Campbells Tomato Soup (12 cans)
Regular price $10.20 (for all 12)
Sale price with VIC card $7.20 (for all 12)
3 coupons for $.40 off of 4 ($.40 tripled is $1.20 x 3 coupons= $3.60)
So the final price ended up being the $7.20 – $3.60 = $3.60
Price per can : $.30

Ragu Sauce (2 jars)
Regular price $4.78 (for both)
Sale price with VIC card $4.38 (for both)
1 coupon for $.75 off of 2 ($.75 tripled is $2.25)
Final price: $2.53 for both

Wacky Mac Vegetable Pasta
Regular price $1.49
Sale price VIC card $1.29
1 coupon for $.50 off (tripled is $1.50)
Final price: FREE

Fiber One bars (these are one of my favorite snacks!)
Regular Price $3.49
Sale price with VIC card $2.50
1 coupon for $.40 (tripled is $1.20)
Final price: $1.30

French’s Fried Onions
Regular Price $2.49
1 coupon for $.75 (tripled is $2.25)
Final price: $.24

Welch’s White Grape Pomegrante Juice (this was a splurge)
Regular Price $4.59
Sale price with VIC $3.99
1 coupon for $.75 (tripled is $2.25)
Final price: $1.74

Steamfresh Vegetables
Regular Price $2.00
1 coupon $.50 (tripled is $1.50)
Final price: $.50

This last one was a great deal. Right now at Harris Teeter if you purchase 5 or more boxes of Green Giant frozen vegetables you get a $3 off coupon for your next visit to Harris Teeter.

Green Giant Frozen Vegetable (2 boxes)
Regular Price $3.58 (for both)
Price with VIC card $1.98 (for both)
1 coupon for $.50 off 2 (tripled is $1.50)
Final price: $.48 for both boxes

PLUS since I did this three times for a total of six boxes, I got the $3 off coupon!

All of this took about 30 minutes last night sitting on the floor while watching The Biggest Loser. How long it will take in Harris Teeter depends on how well you know the store. Here is my advice:

– Give yourself plenty of time. If you are in a rush at the store you will lose count of things, mix up coupons or forget items. You need to be able to relax.
– If you have never done triples, I would recommend not using self check out. It is sometimes easier to have the cashier handle everything.
– Don’t expect to buy a million things. You can only use 20 coupons a day.
– This is the biggest and most important one: If you really want to make a killing at triple coupons just shop for specific items and not meals. Unless you shop at Harris Teeter for your groceries all the time, their prices may not be cheaper than where you generally shop. I usually come home with everything and plan my meals out of what is in my pantry- then I can run to my discount store and buy whatever ingredients I need.

If you want any help or have any more advice please comment to this and I will be sure to post it for everyone to see. Also, if you get some great deals and want to share, please leave a comment too!

Harris Teeter Triple Coupons

I feel like I have seen it in enough places now that I can say with some confidence that Harris Teeter begins Triple Coupons tomorrow. (If I get it from one of my rock solid sources I will let you know. Also as some other on-line frugalistas post their deals I will link them on here.) They will go from 9/16 – 9/22 starting at 7 a.m.

Some basic rules for the rookies about Triple Coupons
– Only coupons up to $.99 are tripled
– MOST of the time even if the coupon says not to double or triple they still will. Don’t hold me to it, but the odds are pretty good.
– You have to have a VIC card for coupons to be tripled
– Only 20 coupons are accepted per day, per household
– Only one coupon per item- they do not triple their own coupons
– MOST of the time if something is B1G1 free and you only get one, it will ring up half price. There are exceptions so be sure to grab the sales ad.

Here is their coupon policy if you would like to read more!

I will post some of my own personal advice a little bit later. There are ways to really maximize the triple coupon experience!

CVS Deals 9/13 – 9/19

Things to remember about CVS (especially if it’s your first trip)

–         As soon as you get there, sign up for their rewards card

–         They will accept competing drug stores manufacturers coupons, so bring coupons from places like Rite Aid and Walgreens

–         They will let you use more than one coupon per item.  For example, the Schick razors that are listed below include a dollar off coupon from the paper today.  If your friends or family do not want to use that coupon, or you get multiple copies of the paper, you can take in multiples of that same coupon and they will take them until you hit the price of the item.

–         ECB= Extra Care Bucks.  Extra Care Bucks print out after you have purchased your items.  They are basically gift certificates for CVS.  The next time you come in and shop, you can use them the same as cash.

This is a great tutorial on CVS.  I promise it is not as complicated as it looks and can save you a TON of money!
