Beer and Diapers

Some things in life are just classic pairs: peanut butter and jelly, Mulder and Scully, burgers and fries….

And now… beer and diapers.

Picture a Friday night.  A young man who used to be out with his friends drinking in a bar has now become a father.  And his dreams of a normal Friday night is now diapers, bottles and spit up.  So the bar is losing out.  However there is no reason this young man can not drink at home right?  And the stores want to be sure he remembers this.  So they put the diapers right next to the beer.

And guess what happens?  It sells.

I took this picture yesterday in my local Walmart to show you- the beer is in the front and the diapers are in the back of the shot.  They are probably 15 feet from each other.

While I am not an extreme couponer I am a big fan of the stockpile.  The goal of stockpiling is that you never have to run out at the last minute and pay full price for something you need.  Another benefit of the stock pile is that it saves you from in-store marketing.  Diapers and beer are just one of a million examples of the strategy used in setting up stores.

So buy an extra bag of diapers when you find a really good deal- it can save you later on!
