Giving a beautifully wrapped gift and meaningful card can make a great impression. It can also get extremely expensive. Between the card, tissue and wrapping paper, gift bags and ribbon you can go broke before you even consider the cost of the gift itself!
Personally I would rather get someone a nice gift and not go broke wrapping it. Those of us who live in Hampton Roads have a little known gem available to help off set this cost.
On Virginia Beach Blvd in the Birchwood Shopping Center there is a store called “the 39er.” I have been going there for almost three years because of their amazing prices on cards, wrapping paper and party supplies!
ALL of the greeting cards in the store are $.39 and include a lot of the same brand names you see in big stores. The roll of wrapping paper I looked at today was $.89 and so was the package of tissue paper. Gift bags (depending on size) usually run in that same price range. They also have packs of invitations for parties or thank you notes- most are right around $1!
In addition they have party supplies. Valentines, St. Patrick’s Day, Mardi Gras, birthdays, poker nights, graduation… just about everything you can think of! They have streamers, tablecloths, cups and napkins available in tons of colors and prints at HUGELY discounted prices- most even cheaper than your local dollar store.
Also, for organizations (teachers, churches etc.) they can order items in large quantities and get them even cheaper! Need to throw a banquet? Check them out to cut way back on your decorating costs! Doing a unit in school with a special theme? You can get everything you need from “the 39er.”
And just to get the ball rolling the owner, Sam, has two great deals for www.afrugalchick.com readers:
1- Print this post and get 10% off your entire purchase (excluding cards) during the month of February! That’s an even better discount on some otherwise expensive items.
2- I get to give away two 50% off coupons! You can go to the store and get 50% off your entire purchase (excluding cards and some party supplies- Sam can let you know when you get there) up to $25.00. So that’s $50.00 worth of stuff! Imagine the possibilities!
If you are interested in winning one of the coupons it’s very simple to enter. Just leave a comment and tell me what you would use it for! I will use a random number generator to select the winning posts on Friday morning, February 19th. Then I will drop you an e-mail for your address and snail mail you the coupon.
Even if you don’t win, make sure to go check them out at 3756 Virginia Beach Blvd in Virginia Beach or give them a call at 757-498-1334!

Hello I am the President of a Family Readiness group for a locally stationed Navy Ship. We are currently trying to raise money for our Homecoming Lei and 50% off our supplies would be put to great use for this project. Thank you for your information.

I am on the Family Readiness Group Board of a locally based ship who is currently deployed. It is naval tradition for the FRG to create a lei for for ships upon return from deployments. Our group is currently trying to raise money in order to make a gigantic lei which we are planning to construct out of plastic table cloths. It would truly be a blessing to get the supplies we need at 50% off!

I LOVE the .39cent store! I discovered it a few years ago while shopping at Burlington/AC Moore. I was pleasantly surprised at the amount of quality name brand items they sell! Such variety! If I am the winner of the 50% off certificate, I would use it to purchase supplies for my husbands’ upcoming retirement party. He will be retiring this year after 20 years service in the US Navy. We are unable to afford an elaborate party, so, we’ve decided to have a patriotic BBQ at his mother’s home in North Carolina. Happy shopping to whoever ends up being the lucky winner! :*)

Because I coordinate the talent show for an elementary school in Virginia Beach, the coupon would really help me with much needed supplies.
