52 Books in 52 Weeks #18: “Before The Scarlet Dawn”

I owe you guys two book posts so I am playing catch up today!

Welcome to week 18 of the “52 Books in 52 Weeks” series!  If you haven’t seen all the books take a moment and catch up!

The book I read this week was Before the Scarlet Dawn: Daughters of the Potomac, Book 1 (The Daughters of the Potomac).

The book’s description on Amazon is pretty reliable:

In 1775, Hayward Morgan, a young gentleman destined to inherit his father’s estate in Derbyshire, England, captures the heart of the local vicar’s daughter, Eliza Bloome. Her dark beauty and spirited ways are not enough to win him, due to her station in life.

Circumstances throw Eliza in Hayward’s path, and they flee to America to escape the family conflicts. But as war looms, it’s a temporary reprieve. Hayward joins the revolutionary forces and what follows is a struggle for survival, a test of faith, and the quest to find lasting love in an unforgiving wilderness.

Because I am working on 1776 right now I was very interested in this book because the time periods are pretty close together.  It was a great picture of what life would have been like for Abigail Adams.

The book was completely riveting for the first 75% of the content.  Then a HUGE turn takes place in the plot and it felt like the author needed to wrap it up so she just rushed through the wrap up.  I was really disappointed in the ending.

This is only the first of a series though so I will keep my eyes out for the follow up.  I don’t know that I would pay $9.99 for it but its a definite read from the library or if it pops up FREE on Amazon!
