1776- I Am Abigail Adams

There was a time in my life when I was very active in theater.  Then came graduate school and working three jobs to get out of debt.  As you know when time and money gets tight something has to give.  For me it was performing and I have missed it terribly.

I am SO very excited to announce that I am FINALLY getting back on stage in Hampton Roads for something other than announcing double coupon events.

From July 4th to July 8th I will be participating in the Theatrix Productions [1]performances of “1776.”

After a long and nerve-wracking audition process (more on that later) I have been asked to play Abigail Adams and I could not be happier.  The part is beautiful and I am anxious to begin rehearsals.

For those of you have never seen or heard of “1776” this will give you an idea of what I will be working on:

The seminal event in American history blazes to vivid life in this most unconventional of Broadway hits. It’s the summer of 1776, and the nation is ready to declare independence… if only our founding fathers can agree to do it! 1776 follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania, and Richard Henry Lee and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they attempt to convince the members of the second Continental Congress to vote for independence from the shackles of the British monarchy by signing the Declaration of Independence.

1776 puts a human face on the pages of history as we see the men behind the national icons: proud, frightened, uncertain, irritable, charming, often petty and ultimately noble figures determined to do the right thing for a fledgling nation.

The music for the show is BEAUTIFUL and I must confess I like my two songs with solos the best.  Both are duets with John Adams (who has a beautiful voice).

For the next 8 weeks or so I will keep you updated on the show including practices and such.  People often ask me what it’s like to do a community theater performance and so if you are interested this can be a sneak peek for you.

If you could care less just skip the posts.  I will never know.  🙂

If you are interested in coming to see the show I would LOVE that!  Tickets are already on sale [1] if you want to snag the best seats for the date of your choice!

Tickets are… you ready… $17.76.  That’s only a little bit more than a movie!

So keep an eye out- more pictures and back stage tidbits to come!

A movie version of the play came out in 1972.  I have put one of the songs below for you to check out- this is a MUST SEE for history buffs! By the way if John Adam’s voice sounds familiar he was the voice of KITT in Knight Rider (the talking car).
